Our face masks made from recycled mara mea fabrics
Spring fever, sunshine, social distancing, and community masks. We hardly expected 2020 to be like this on New Year's Eve.
The outbreak of Covid-19 has turned our everyday lives upside down: quarantine, homeschooling, childcare, and working from home. Each of us faces our own unique challenges, and despite recent relaxations, the new everyday routine in 2020 is community masking .
Initially, community masks were in short supply and demand was high, so we quickly decided to do our part and sew face masks from recycled mara mea fabrics. We set up our sewing machines and started sewing from our home office.
Whether at home on the balcony, in the living room, or in the kitchen, we all have one thing in common: a great deal of joy in our new project. This is how we first created our lovingly hand-sewn face masks for children and women , and then, upon request, for men . Each model is unique because we work with fabric scraps and recycled mara mea pieces.
We donated an initial portion to Frauenzimmer eV (Women's Room Association). We became aware of the project through the two wonderful ladies Carolin Lauffenburger and Giulia Consiglio. The two regularly support social projects and, in light of current events, are raising awareness and advocating for the increasing domestic violence against women and children during the coronavirus-related quarantine. They collect donations, utilize their social media reach, and are actively involved in local activities.
When the first mara mea face masks posted online sold out within an hour, it was time to keep sewing. Even though the nights are short and the days long, we're thrilled that our face masks made from recycled mara mea fabrics are so well-received. As a small label like us, your support during the current crisis means a lot to us. Thank you so much.
Important: Community masks are not a medical device and should be washed at a minimum of 60°C after each use. They should also be put on at home with clean hands. Wearing a face mask contributes to #flattenthecurve, but does NOT replace basic hygiene rules. All details and warnings can be found on the product detail pages.
The following also applies: Stay at home if possible, keep a distance of at least 1.50 m, wash your hands thoroughly and regularly and sneeze/cough into your elbow.
Stay healthy and take care of yourself and your loved ones!
All love,
Dorina, Maren & Team
